The material of pall ring is divided into plastic pall ring, such as PVC/PTFE/PP, metal pall ring, such as 304/316/410/carbon steel and ceramic pall ring. These three main materials, except for ceramic pall ring, have only one type, such as metal and plastic materials, which are also subdivided into different materials. The features of each material are different.
Ceramic Pall ring
Advantages: It has excellent acid and heat resistance, with a usage temperature of over 1300 ℃. It can withstand corrosion from various inorganic acids, organic acids, and organic solvents except hydrofluoric acid, with an acid resistance of ≤ 99% and an alkali resistance of ≤ 85%. The price is relatively cheap, and there are multiple specifications to choose from, such as φ 16, φ 25, φ 38, φ 50, φ 76, φ 80, φ 100, etc., which can be used in various high and low temperature situations and have a wide range of applications.
Plastic pall ring
Advantages: Light weight, non fragile, heat-resistant and chemically resistant, moderate production cost, high porosity, low pressure drop and mass transfer unit height, high flooding point, sufficient gas-liquid contact, high mass transfer efficiency. The usage temperature in various media is 60-280 ℃, widely used in industries such as petroleum, chemical, chlor alkali, gas and environmental protection.
Disadvantages: Not resistant to high temperatures, strong acids and alkalis and prone to oxidation.
Different materials and features:
PP (polypropylene): heat-resistant to 100 ° C, relatively low price, but relatively weak corrosion resistance.
RPP (Reinforced Polypropylene): Based on PP, mechanical strength and wear resistance have been improved through reinforcement modification, making it more suitable for applications that require high mechanical strength.
PVC (polyvinyl chloride): It has good chemical corrosion resistance, but its temperature resistance range is limited.
CPVC (Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride): It has a higher temperature tolerance than PP, usually reaching around 110 ° C, and has good chemical corrosion resistance.
PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride): It can withstand temperatures up to 150 ° C and has excellent chemical corrosion resistance, making it suitable for long-term use in harsh industrial environments.
PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene): It can withstand temperatures up to 260 ° C and is currently one of the most corrosion-resistant materials known, especially suitable for high-temperature and highly corrosive chemical processes
Metal pall ring
Advantages: Thin wall, heat and cold resistance, high porosity, high flux, low pressure reduction, low resistance, good separation effect, long service life, and can fully utilize the potential of the equipment. Suitable for vacuum distillation towers, carbon dioxide degassing towers, handling materials that are allergenic, easily decomposable, easy to compact, and prone to carbon deposition, widely used in packed towers in industries such as petrochemicals, fertilizers, chemicals, and environmental protection.
Disadvantages: Not resistant to strong acids and alkalis.
Different materials and features:
Carbon steel: relatively low cost, but relatively weak corrosion resistance, suitable for some working conditions with weak corrosion resistance.
304 stainless steel: It has good corrosion resistance and heat resistance, and can be used stably in various chemical media. It is a commonly used metal ball ring material.
316L stainless steel: Corrosion resistance is better than 304 stainless steel, especially in environments with strong corrosiveness such as chloride ions. 316L stainless steel has a lower carbon content and better welding performance, which can effectively reduce intergranular corrosion problems that may occur during the welding process.
