Silica gel bead is a water absorbing substance commonly used to prevent products from being damaged due to excessive moisture. Silicon dioxide is the basic component of silica gel desiccants, but some types also contain chemicals that can change color based on the amount of water absorbed.
There are many types of silica gel desiccants, mainly including orange silica gel, blue silica gel and transparent silica gel.
1. Blue silica gel desiccant: turns from blue to pink after absorbing moisture. It contains cobalt chloride, which can indicate the moisture absorption status of the desiccant through color changes.

2. Orange silica gel desiccant: After absorbing moisture, it changes from orange to pink or other colors, depending on the indicator used. Orange silica gel desiccant is considered a more environmentally friendly choice as it typically does not contain cobalt chloride.
Application: Orange silica gel desiccant, also known as “cobalt free color changing silica gel”, also has moisture absorption ability and significant color change. Its appearance is orange or semi transparent glass like particles, widely used in fields such as insulating glass, logistics containers, handicrafts, agricultural products, clothing, leather and textiles, shoes and hats, optical electronics, precision instruments and meters, household appliances, mechanical equipment, glassware, metal materials, tea leaves, etc.
3. Transparent silica gel desiccant: In the early stage of moisture saturation, there is basically no change in its appearance. The only intuitive feeling is that when you hold some saturated silica gel desiccant in your hand, you will not feel “hot” quickly or at all. However, when the saturated silica gel desiccant is left for a long time, some silica gel desiccants may turn yellow or turn into milky white or completely white particles, or some silica gel desiccants may rupture.
Application: Transparent silica gel desiccant usually refer to colorless and transparent silica gel desiccants that do not contain color changing indicators. This type of desiccant is suitable for situations that do not require real-time monitoring of humidity levels, but because they do not have color changing functions, their moisture absorption status needs to be determined through other means during use. Transparent silica gel desiccant is also suitable for various industrial and commercial products, such as shoes, bags, furniture, cameras, etc
